Are you IN or OUT for Bio Solids ?

PROS
What are Biosolids?
Biosolids are the nutrient-rich organic product of wastewater treatment. A beneficial resource, biosolids contain essential plant nutrient and organic matter and are recycled as a fertilizer and soil amendment.Biosolids recycled in agriculture provide essential plant nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and zinc for healthy crops. Biosolids promote root growth by improving soil tilth, enhancing moisture retention, and encouraging earthworms. Biosolids supply organic matter and often improve yields, both of which help control soil erosion. Biosolids recycling can play an important role in soil fertilization and conservation.

Recycling bio solids is good for the environment. Organic matter has been recycled for centuries to improve soil fertility and productivity. When properly applied and managed, biosolids can provide essential plant nutrients improve soil structure, and tilth, add organic matter, enhance moisture retention, reduce soil and erosion. Research and years of recycling experience have demonstrated that properly managed land application of biosolids is environmentally safe.

CONS
Bio solid's may be a potential health hazard,
Biosolids can contain a wide selection of both organic and inorganic chemicals
depending on the source of sewage and the treatment processes.Once applied to land more chemical changes can occur resulting in a different chemicals distributed through the bio solid rather than in the original product, Bio solids may have contamination from the accumulation of industrial waste, (hence may accumulate inorganic chemicals due to industrial waste), surprisingly it may also decrease the property value, due to respect its very questionable to some people why bio solids have an effect on your property value, probably because the heavy stench of the bio solids, or for some people who are unfavored for the use of Bio Solids for nature, giving them seller's a more harder time to sell the house since, the Bio Solid may be accounted as a disadvantage of the property.

Bio Solids contain's strong evidences from the Pro's and Con's .But we cant really tell which source is more reliable to beleive in. The Pro's support numerous evidence of how safe and effective Bio Solids are to the environment, while the Con's discontinues the reliability of Bio Solids by stating the fact that Bio Solids may possibly carry in organic chemicals which can lead hazardous health problems. Both sources have strong initiatives to prove about and can be very hard to beleive which is more reliable,From my opinion the Pro's seem rather an advantage of sources to me because even if the bio solids produced inorganic chemicals just through industrial waste, but doesnt mean that all Bio Solids are contaminated.

  1. Whaddup Jordan, your post seems very insightful, but you do not go into much detail about the cons. You state that bio solids may contain organic or inorganic chemicals. Please elaborate on how this may be an issue for health and environmental reasons. The post overall on the other hand will more likely create questions for people on their decision of whether or not they will support bio solids. Great post.
